It all started back in the 1980's with a man with a dream and a hot air popcorn popper. My dad first discovered his love of good coffee when he lived in the San Francisco area in the 1970s.
When he returned home to rural Missouri, he wasn't able to find any coffee that lived up to what he had tasted on the west coast. So he did some research, procured some green beans and started roasted his own. What started as a hobby quickly turned to friends, family, and coworkers requesting his coffee beans for their own use.
My dad purchased a Jabez Burns sample roaster from the owner of our green bean supplier, who helped get him set up in business, and continues to be our broker over 26 years later.
While our roasters have seen a few upgrades over the years, our technique and tradition remain the same. I started apprenticing with my father back in 2003, and am proud to carry on his legacy today.
We lost my dad back in 2019 to cancer. He is missed dearly, but he is with me every day that I roast. Our previous facility was essentially a renovated garage at our family farm in Sturgeon, Missouri. While it served us well over the years, we were thrilled to be able to move our facility to Rocheport, Missouri.
I spent nearly 16 years on and off working at Abigail's which was just across the street from our current location. There I worked with some of my most favorite people, and learned an invaluable set of culinary skills, and I also gained a love for the amazing community in Rocheport.
